Many travelers enjoy jetting or cruising to the Caribbean for vacation. However, many don’t realize exactly how vast this region is. There are a myriad of things to do and places to see while you’re in the Caribbean. That's why we suggest that before you starting planning a trip, decide exactly where you want to go.

Once called the West Indies, the Caribbean was discovered by different explorers from Europe. European influence can be seen on many of the islands, mainly the speaking of English. Because of the Caribbean's proximity to the United states, the islands tend to cater very well to American tourists, making it great for travel.

Among some of the most popular islands in the Caribbean include Antiqua, the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are also a number of islands off the coast of Central and South America such as Roatan and Utila in Honduras or touristy Margarita Island off Venezuela. These destinations are for the more adventurous tourist.

Wherever you decide to travel, make sure you do you research first. For instance, if you don't have a passport yet but still want to enjoy the splendors of the Caribbean, you may decide to travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico. Perhaps you just want to spend your vacation at a big resort, and sitting on the beach with an umbrella drink in the Dominican Republic. You can always take a cruise so you can get a taste of multiple ports of call and activities on board while out to sea. Or maybe your idea of a Caribbean vacation is to snorkel and dive the incredible reefs of Bonaire or Curacao.
